Description
A tour of the outskirts of Rome provides a peek into an earthly paradise and an immersive view of the magnificent scenery. The trip includes a visit to a medieval city and an oasis garden, only 1.5 hours from Rome. The hospitable town of Sermoneta is nestled at the very top of a green mountain in the province of Latina in the region of Latium. Here is the ancestral castle of the Caetani family, an interesting example of fortification architecture. More than a dozen cardinals came from this noble family, as well as Pope Boniface VIII and Pope Gelasius II.
A country tour will immerse you in the magical atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The castle-fortress has been preserved to this day in its original form since the 13th century. In the city, which is called a small gem of medieval architecture, more than 100 Italian and foreign films have been shot, gastronomic festivals, music festivals and other cultural events take place. The picturesque town became the center of cultural life at the end of the eighth century when it came into the possession of the ruling Caetani family. At the same time, a feudal castle with a powerful system of fortifications was built on the top of the hill, and transport and agricultural infrastructure were organized.
The Romantic Garden of Nymph is a fabulously beautiful landscape park with medieval ruins. The natural monument is located at the foot of the Lepini Mountains in the province of Latina. Here you can admire one of the world’s most unique collections of exotic trees, shrubs, and flowers. The gardens were laid out by the Caetani family in the early 20th century on the site of medieval ruins and were named after a small Roman temple dedicated to the goddess of underground waters, Nympha Naiade. The unique landscaping, mild climate, and tireless work of the creators turned the park into a masterpiece of Italian garden art. The amazing park complex includes a botanical garden with a rich collection of plants, a lake, and a river. The tour is intended for lovers of nature and medieval history and will delight people who are tired of the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.
